Camp NaNoWriMo Day 17: Coffee Steam & Skype – A Poem

With how stressful reading news articles can be, I’m finding out how important it is to sit back and focus on something simple every so often:

Coffee Steam & Skype

A COVID-19 poem by Lauren Hallstrom

How good it feels to laugh again,

to realize that this whole time

the muscles in my face have been

all scrunched up

& now I can let them loose.

This is how it feels to breathe again,

amid three dozen news articles

telling us it won’t be over soon,

with work saying “I don’t know.”

This is what living is.

This is laughing at song lyrics

& finding ways to make masks glitter

& knowing that at the end of the day

there is more than one way to breathe deeply.
